I am thankful for High Point State Park. For me it is a special place where I can walk the trails in any season and enjoy nature at its best. In the spring the sound of a breeze rustling leaves and birds calling each other is fascinating. In autumn there is the blazing color of autumn leaves that excites me. Summer brings the campers and picnickers to High Point, which is always a joyful sight. Finally, in winter after the first snow, there is a certain stillness ... the sound of silence, a sense of peace. I put on my snowshoes and keep walking.

When we asked area residents to tell us what they are thankful for, we didn’t know what to expect. The world seems so shaky right now, with its tough economic climate and uncertain future.
But, those of you who responded had plenty to be thankful for, from wonderful families, friends and good health to special places that bring happiness to the soul.
Some of you, such as Janet Halpin, of Newton, wrote about their own blessings and included a thought for others.
