Court updates for 11/1: Man faces Meagan’s Law violation charges
 
A former Newton man has been indicted for allegedly failing to notify police of his sex offender status and his new address when he moved into Newton, the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office said.

A grand jury charged Robert Norman, 26, with failing to comply with Megan’s Law by failing to register with Newton police, a third-degree crime, and failure to notify state police of a new address in Newton, a fourth-degree crime.

Assistant Prosecutor Robin Lawrie presented the case to the grand jury, and arraignment will be within six weeks.

Man charged with sex offender violation
A former Wantage man has been indicted for allegedly failing to comply with three conditions of his sex offender status under Megan’s Law, the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office said.

A grand jury charged Emmett Myers, 74, with failing to register with the state police and failure to comply with GPS monitoring under the Sex Offender Monitoring Act, both third-degree crimes, and failure to comply with his community supervision for life, a fourth-degree crime.

The state Parole Board investigated the case.

Assistant Prosecutor Robin Lawrie presented the case to the grand jury, and arraignment will be within six weeks.

Woman accused of hitting man with brick

A 54-year-old Newton woman has been indicted for allegedly hitting an adult male over the head several times with a brick June 1 on Sparta Avenue, the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office said.

A grand jury charged Mary McCaffrey with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, both third-degree crimes.

Newton Sgt. Michael Monaco investigated the case.

Assistant Prosecutor Robin Lawrie presented the case to the grand jury, and arraignment will be within six weeks.
