Newton church will host ‘Why Catholic?’

NEWTON — St. Joseph Parish will host a six-week program entitled “Why Catholic?” Oct. 4 through Nov. 8. The adult faith program is based in Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic church, and offers an approach to help deepen faith and connect Catholic teachings to everyday life. The theme is “The Profession of Faith: What We Believe.”

Children’s program starts Sunday  

SUSSEX BOROUGH — First Baptist Church of Sussex, state Routes 23 and 284, will begin its new Sunday children’s program, Funday Nights, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. this Sunday.

The program will include games, crafts and special activities, like baking cookies and Christmas caroling. Each evening will conclude with a short, child-centered worship service with action songs, prayer, offering and a Bible lesson.

Children will learn to share their blessings by bringing offerings: food items for the Sussex Help Center, gifts to pack in Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes or money to help sponsor a child in Peru.

Children of all ages are welcome, and the whole family is encouraged to participate. Preschoolers must be accompanied by an adult.  

The program is free and registration is not required. Activities will be held in the dining room, which is wheelchair accessible.

Concert at Sparta church scheduled for Oct. 2

SPARTA — Sparta Evangelical Free Church, Route 15 and Houses Corner Road, will present Rush of Fools in concert at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2. Tickets are $15 in advance and can be purchased by calling the church office at (973) 300-1717 or through Itickets.com. Tickets at the door are $20, cash only.

Newton church to host pasta lunch Sept. 27
NEWTON — The First Presbyterian Church of Newton, 54 High St., will host an all-you-can-eat pasta lunch at noon Sunday, Sept. 27.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under. Proceeds will benefit “Preservation and Promise,” a capital campaign to repair the historic church and support community outreach.

Prayer group’s garage sale set for Saturday
ROXBURY — St. Therese Prayer Group is having a community garage sale  from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the church parking lot, 151 Main St., Succasunna.

Dinner theater at Dingmans Ferry church
