HACKETTSTOWN — A Raising Awareness Benefit Show will be held at 9 p.m. tonight at Centenary College in the George H. Whitney Chapel of the Edward W. Seay Administration Building. This musical performance will consist of local bands and Centenary singers. The cost is $2. The concert will support the nonprofit organization, “To Write Love on Her Arms,” an organization that provides hope and services to individuals battling with depression, suicidal thoughts or issues related to self-injury. The bands performing include The Night Life, A Clear Blurr, Shooter McGavin and Naked Twister Genre. The show is part of an initiative to raise consciousness about depression, suicide and learning disabilities. The Social Change and Movements class put together the project and will also host a presentation a at 7:30 p.m. at the Ferry Recital Hall at the Joseph R. Ferry Music and Arts Building on Thursday. Members of the community are invited to attend this informational discussion about learning disabilities. Guest speakers will include Joyce Ames from the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation and a representative from the Centenary community. The free presentation is open to the public. Halloween event HACKETTSTOWN – The Centenary College Student Government Association will be running a Halloween Celebration on the front lawn of the Edward W. Seay Administration Building (rain location is the Formal Dining Room) at 10 a.m. Saturday. The rain location is the formal dining room at the college. Members of the community are encouraged to bring their children. Activities will include face painting, pumpkin painting and bobbing for apples. Games include a bean bag toss, limbo, ring toss, and pin the eye patch on the pirate. Food that will be available will include cotton candy, popcorn, cupcakes, apple cider and more. At the conclusion of this event, those who are interested can participate in a Halloween Parade that is run by the Hackettstown Business Improvement District, which will leave from Centenary at noon. The parade will be led down Moore Street to the gazebo on Main Street. Prizes will be distributed to the costume contest winners. Shopping event HACKETTSTOWN — Centenary College will host the Northwest New Jersey Regional Women’s Center’s Fall Festival of Women’s Home Business Owners Holiday Shopping Event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 9, in the sunken lounge of the Edward W. Seay Administration Building. Members of the community are invited. Vendors include Lia Sophia, Longaberger, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Pampered Chef, Send Out Cards, Silpada, Tastefully Simple and Tupperware. For more information, call (908) 852-1400, ext. 2374. Book signing HACKETTSTOWN — Centenary College President Dr. Barbara-Jayne Lewth-waite will be holding a book reading and signing of her picture book for adults and children entitled “The Magic of James Pinkie Ears, The Dog.” This Kappa Delta Epsilon-sponsored event will be held at 4 p.m. on Nov. 4, in the Front Parlours of the Edward W. Seay Administration Building. Members of the community are invited. Books can be purchased at the day of the event for $6. All proceeds will go toward funding the James Gregory Smith Memorial Award at Centenary College. The fund was established in March 2002 in memory of Dr. Lewthwaite’s brother, James Gregory Smith, who died when the World Trade Center was attacked on Sept. 11, 2001.
