BYRAM -- There will be no tricks, just treats, when the dynamic garage rock band The Doughboys takes the stage at Wild West City on Halloween night, Oct. 31 at 9 p.m. Wild West City is located on Lackawanna Drive, just off Route 206. Attendees are invited to come in costume to win prizes.
The Doughboys, popular in central New Jersey, bring to the stage covers from bands such as the Rolling Stones, the Yardbirds and the Animals, and also produce instantly classic original music that has the sound of the best rock tunes of the '60s and '70s.
There are familiar faces in the band, such as that of Myke Scavone, who was the lead singer of the '70s band Ram Jam (who had a hit with "Black Betty"), and Gar Francis, who was one of the founding members of the Rolling Stones tribute band Sticky Fingers (he played Keith Richards). Richard X. Heyman, the band's drummer, is an acclaimed singer/songwriter known all over the world with seven albums and two EPs to his credit, as well as having done session work with the likes of Brian Wilson, Jonathan Richman and Link Wray. The talented Mike Caruso on bass rounds out the quartet.
The Doughboys' CD "Is It Now" has been a big seller, and the band is on the verge of releasing their newest CD, "Act Your Rage."
The Doughboys have twice performed at Bethlehem Musikfest in Pennsylvania and recently at Fort Dix for a concert for returning troops. The band has shared bills with The Pretenders, The Electric Prunes, Peter Tork of the Monkees and Robin Trower of Procol Harum, to name a few.
They have played at clubs in New York including B.B. King's, the Cutting Room, Arlene's Grocery, The Living Room and Kenny's Castaways. In New Jersey they've performed at The Stone Pony, Asbury Lanes, Crossroads and Maxwell's, among others.
