Grey Towers to be open in November

MILFORD, Pa — Grey Towers National Historic Site will remain open on weekends through November instead of closing for the season.
Tours will be given at 1 p.m.. and 3 p.m. each weekend, except for Thanksgiving weekend (Nov. 28-29). No public tours are offered on weekdays in November.
The November weekend tours will bring visitors to all three floors of the mansion, except on Nov. 1 when the upper floors are reserved for a conference. These special tours spend a shortened time in the gardens because additional time is spent inside the mansion and because most of the water features will be closed for the winter.
This new schedule gives the public additional access to the site while allowing staff to prepare the mansion and grounds for the traditional holiday Open House and related programs planned for December.

Cemetary walk today
Today, at 1:30 p.m.,   historian Peter Osborne will conduct a tour of the Laurel Hill Cemetery, Milford’s original town cemetery, located on the grounds of Grey Towers.
Participants should meet in the visitor pavilion in the parking lot and wear comfortable shoes for the short hike to the cemetery. The cemetery tour, co-sponsored by the Grey Towers Heritage Association and the United States Forest Service, is free and open to the public. Registration is recommended.
Laurel Hill Cemetery served as the original town graveyard until the Milford Cemetery on Route 209 was established. Osborne will share information about some of the cemetery's most well-known inhabitants during this program. He also will explain the significance of the artwork on the headstones and grave markers.
The forest service, which administers Grey Towers, has undertaken some rehabilitation projects to improve the cemetery and make it safer and more easily accessed by the public.
For more information or to register, call (570) 296-9630 or e-mail greytowers@fs.fed.us.
