| Yankee success boosts area sales |

Local sales of New York Yankees merchandise have increased sharply during the Bombers’ playoff run that culminated in a 27th world championship Wednesday night.
The Modells Sporting Goods store in Hampton reported brisk sales in Yankee caps and championship T-shirts.
“As (the Yankees) have gotten further along, we’ve been selling more items now than in the past few months,” said store manager Sandy Goldberg. “The excitement of the team definitely has brought more customers into our store. We opened up at 5 this morning and since then, sales have been very good.”
